HORSERACE

Is Fred Thompson Quietly Building Momentum in Iowa?

Soon-to-be-released Strategic Vision Iowa poll: "Romney still leads his rivals but Fred Thompson jumped to a solid second place and is just six points behind, followed by Rudy Giuliani in third and John McCain falling to fourth place."

Hmmm. Mason-Dixon had Thompson in second place in Iowa, too...

In other Iowa news, Bill Richardson's campaign hired a pollster to measure the preferences of 500 likely Democratic caucus-goers:

John Edwards 34%
Hillary Clinton 24%
Barack Obama 17%
Bill Richardson 13%

But, the pollsters added, among the "likeliest" caucus-goers...

John Edwards 31%
Hillary Clinton 23%
Bill Richardson 18%
Barack Obama 16%

I love how pollsters always find ways to make the client look like he's doing okay.
