What Is Michael Bloomberg Up To? Here's An Idea

To offer an answer to the question earlier today (and the question in the Corner, why would Bloomberg change his party affiliation from GOP to "independent" if he isn't setting himself up for an independent bid?), let me offer this thought, prompted by a reader's e-mail...

Michael Bloomberg, like all politicians, has an ego. He likes attention. With this flirtacious gesture hinting at an independent bid, he guarantees that every press conference, every event, every talk show appearance, every interview he does between now and late spring 2008 will get enormous attention. Even if he isn't sure if he wants to run for President, why not force the national media to attend every press conference on banning trans-fats or what other crusade catches Bloomie's fancy?
